A MOMENT TO REFLECT

While Moses was tending the flock, an angel of the Lord appeared to him as fire flaming out of a bush.  Moses was surprised to see that the bush, though on fire, was not consumed.  God called to him from the bush. “Moses! Moses! and Moses answered, “here I am.” Then God asked Moses to lead the enslaved people out of Egypt. And Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should lead the people out of Egypt?” God answered, “I will be with you.”

– from the Book mof Exodus

Many of us would not be surprised to see fire leaping from a bush in the heat of a Texas summer! But this was no ordinary bush that Moses encountered, because this bush was not consumed by the fire. What a sight to see! As if this wasn’t enough, Moses heard the voice of God calling to him! We can picture Moses, a bit tongue-tied and raising a hand, saying, “Here I am.”

Then came the double whammy. God asked Moses to lead the people of Israel out of slavery in Egypt. With kness shaking, Moses told God that he wasn’t the man for the job. After all, he had those sheep to watch, a wife and two kids, no leadership training…

But God has a way of choosing the most humble of us to perform His miracles. With God’s help, Moses went on to lead the peope from Egypt and receive the Ten Commandments! May we each have the faith in ourself that God as in us. Amen.
