Helping Center accepts Donation

The Helping Center (“THC”) is pleased to announce that The Club at Horseshoe Bay Resort 2022 Mah Jongg Tournament (“MJT”) has donated $36,000 to fund its 2023 “LEARN for LIFE” education program.  Over the past three years, MJT has donated more than $125,000 to fund construction of the new Helping Center and to support its education program.

Tournament co-chair Jo Ellen Henderson commented, “the organizers and participants of this year’s tournament are pleased to fund the LEARN for LIFE program, which is continuing into its third year.  We truly believe that education and outreach, in the context of unconditional love, has the power to change lives”.

LEARN for LIFE targets THC clients with a variety of opportunities.  Programming in 2022 included nutrition education and cooking demonstrations, a health fair, a “free books for all” children’s book event, installation of a Little Free Library, a Thanks-Giveaway event for families of the Boys and Girls Club, a scholarship program, and more.  A client who attended a recent cooking demonstration commented, “When in walked in this morning, I was having a pretty bad day.  I feel so much better now”.  Other clients have reported weight reductions and healthier lifestyle habits after attending nutrition classes.

Coordinator Barbara King stated, “The Helping Center and LEARN for LIFE is excited to accept this very generous donation.  These dollars are truly changing the lives of our clients, their families, and our community.”
